Windows

To get your halfpage scanner working on Windows you will need to have the proper drivers installed.

Manual installation

In most cases, the scanner driver will be installed and detected automatically when you connect your scanner to your Windows computer. Windows should recognize the device and install the necessary drivers without any manual intervention.

Prerequisites

  • Windows operating system
  • Administrator access to your computer
  • Downloaded driver file: VCOM_CL_Drivers_v2.1.zip

Installation Steps

Start by downloading the driver from the ScanID Downloads.

Step 1: Locate the Downloaded File

Find the VCOM_CL_Drivers_v2.1.zip file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you saved it).

Step 2: Extract the ZIP File

  1. Right-click on VCOM_CL_Drivers_v2.1.zip

Step 4: Run the Installer

  1. Inside the “Scanner Driver” folder, locate the file named “Scanner Driver Installer.exe”
  2. Right-click on “Scanner Driver Installer.exe”
  3. Select “Run as administrator” (this ensures the installer has the necessary permissions)

Step 5: Follow On-Screen Instructions

  1. A User Account Control (UAC) prompt may appear asking “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”

    • Click “Yes” to continue
  2. The Scanner Driver Installer will launch

Troubleshooting

Driver Installation Fails

Problem: The installer shows an error or fails to complete.

Solutions:

  • Ensure you ran the installer as administrator (right-click → “Run as administrator”)
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software, as it may block the installation
  • Check that you have administrator rights on your computer
  • Try extracting the ZIP file to a different location (e.g., C:\Temp)

Scanner Not Detected After Installation

Problem: The scanner is not recognized even after installing the driver.

Solutions:

  • Restart your computer
  • Try a different USB port
  • Check that the scanner is powered on (if it has a power switch)
  • Unplug and replug the scanner
  • Open Device Manager (right-click Start menu → Device Manager) and look for any devices with yellow warning icons

USB Device Not Recognized Error

Problem: Windows shows “USB device not recognized” message.

Solutions:

  • Try connecting the scanner to a USB 3.0 port (not USB 2.0)
  • Test with a different USB cable
  • Connect the scanner directly to the computer (not through a USB hub)
  • Update your computer’s USB drivers through Device Manager

Verifying Driver Installation

To check if the driver was installed successfully:

  1. Press Windows Key + X
  2. Select “Device Manager”
  3. Look for your scanner under categories like:
    • Smartcard Readers
    • Ports (COM & LPT)
  4. If the device appears without a yellow warning icon, the driver is installed correctly

Additional Notes

  • Keep the driver files: After successful installation, you may want to keep the extracted driver files in a safe location for future use
  • Driver updates: Check the manufacturer’s website periodically for updated drivers
  • Multiple computers: You’ll need to install the driver on each computer where you plan to use the scanner
  • Windows version compatibility: Ensure the driver version is compatible with your Windows version (Windows 10, 11, etc.)

Alternative Installation Method (Advanced)

If the automatic installer fails or you need to manually install the driver files, you can use the unpacked driver files located in the driver package.

When to Use This Method

Use this alternative method if:

  • The Scanner Driver Installer.exe fails to run or complete
  • Windows requires you to manually specify driver location
  • You need to update an existing driver installation
  • The standard installation method doesn’t work
